Stryker has introduced its next generation of Mako SmartRobotics™ at the AAOS 2025 Annual Meeting, showcasing advancements that further solidify its leadership in robotic-assisted orthopaedic surgery. With over 1.5 million procedures completed worldwide, Mako technology has significantly transformed surgical precision in hip, knee, spine, and shoulder procedures. The latest enhancements aim to improve workflow efficiency, surgical accuracy, and patient outcomes across multiple specialties.

One of the key announcements is the introduction of Mako Total Hip with Advanced Primary and Revision, a first-to-market robotic-assisted revision hip arthroplasty solution. This system allows surgeons to perform both primary and revision total hip arthroplasty with enhanced 3D CT-based preoperative planning and intraoperative screw trajectory guidance. The new features simplify complex hip procedures by integrating advanced planning tools with Stryker’s hip implant portfolio, increasing surgeon confidence in challenging cases.

Additionally, Stryker introduced Mako 4, the fourth-generation robotics system designed to provide an integrated and seamless surgical experience. Mako 4 consolidates applications for Total Hip, Total Knee, Partial Knee, and Spine into a single system, incorporating Stryker’s Q Guidance System, which benefits from over two decades of expertise in surgical guidance technology. The system is built to enhance both clinical and operational efficiency, offering an improved experience compared to manual surgical techniques.

Mako Spine and Mako Shoulder are the latest additions to Stryker’s SmartRobotics™ suite, further expanding the company’s presence in robotic-assisted surgery. The first Mako Spine procedures were performed in October 2024, with a full U.S. commercial launch expected in the latter half of 2025. Mako Shoulder also remains in limited market release following its initial procedures completed at the end of last year. Through these advancements, Stryker continues to push the boundaries of surgical innovation, aiming to serve more patients and improve outcomes across an increasing number of orthopaedic specialties.
